About this build

We built this ankle-high Chelsea on a standard D width last using black oxhide leather and traditional Goodyear welt construction. The internal riser and the 1 1/4 inch outer heel combine to add 2.8 inches of height. Twin elastic side gores and a rear pull tab allow you to pull them on without laces.

Internal lift structure

The concealed riser sits beneath the footbed, working together with the 1 1/4 inch external heel to deliver a 2.8 inch rise. It maintains a flat, standard ankle boot profile from the outside.

Oxhide leather upper

We craft the upper from black genuine oxhide with a plain chiseled toe. The leather softens as you wear it, while a cloth lining keeps the interior comfortable against your socks throughout the day.

Goodyear welt construction

The sole attaches to the upper using a stitched Goodyear welt. This method creates a durable, weather-resistant base that holds up across seasons and allows a cobbler to resole the boot down the line.

Slip-on ankle shaft

Measuring 6 1/4 inches from the base of the sole to the collar, the shaft covers the ankle securely. Dual side gussets stretch over the instep, aided by a sturdy rear pull tab for quick entry.
